Violence
Greetings everyone, my name is Michael Conroy and welcome to my website! My favorite website is the official website to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, also known as the FBI. I choose this specific website because I'm very prodigious on the idea of becoming a special agent. My career goal is to earn an internship while I'm still an undergraduate at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and then become a special agent myself. I love the idea of solving an investigation, working for the government, and even joining one of the FBI's most trained team in the United States, the HRT. The HRT stands for the Hostage Rescue Team and they are highly trained FBI agents that will react to any emergency in a kidnapping or a big drug bust, pretty much anything that's crazy. Those are the guys and girls that jump out of planes and skydive from thousands of feet into the air, I find it amazing. On the other hand, my second favorite website is a completely different transition from the FBI, it's called www.gamebattles.com. Gamebattles is a website for elite gamers from any system: whether it's Xbox, Play station, or the Wii, for competitive gamers to compete against each other. Games that are very big include Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Battlefield. This website offers many tournaments, achievements so it can look good on your profile page, and even money! Ever since I was walking I've been playing video games and since I was in the seventh grade, I got the Xbox 360. I literally would play Call of Duty for eight hours a day and for a twelve year old at the time, I was really good because I had a lot of free time on my hands. So as high school occurred I would play Call of Duty competitively over this gamebattles website and I still do to this day. Therefore, I really want to become a special agent where I get to shoot a gun and solve private investigations, but my free time hobby is to play Xbox and shoot people in the Call of Duty video game. These two websites actually link together because of what I like and it involves a lot of violence from a real life FBI agent and in a virtual world!
The first website that interests me the most is www.fbi.gov. This website is the main website that the Federal Bureau of Investigation uses, also known as the FBI or the top government agency in the United States. This website's purpose is to inform the people of the United States with worldwide news about big arrests or a fugitive that's most wanted. This website specifically educates anyone who is interested in the FBI or a government career, such as myself, or anyone who wants to know more about the top terrorists that are wanted. The FBI's website is not to sell anything, it's more of a top
secret operation that gives out important information to anyone interested in a federal job. The website does further a political and a social cause because it's putting out exactly what they want out there. For example, they tell you not to point a laser at a helicopter or a plane because it's a federal crime even if you think it's a joke. The FBI tells you all about finger printing and background checks so the websites' purpose is to educate the public about a common issue that someone is wanted or can be on the loose in your area. In that case they want you to be aware and sometimes if someone has any information on anything, they can call the number on the website and even help out the FBI. The website www.fbi.gov does recruit people for a project. For example, they offer an Honors internship that takes place in the summer that is extremely competitive and only the best that qualifies will be called for an interview along with an extensive background check. I even applied just recently to this internship and it was the longest set of rules and regulations that I had to go through just to apply to it. So that's one way the website is useful for recruitment if anyone wants to volunteer for the FBI. This website communicates its purpose with using more than just words by them telling us that they see everything and watch your every move. Don't mess with the federal government, that would be their message to the public. This website does have a logo and it's the seal of the FBI that says the department of justice on the top and federal bureau of investigation on the bottom. It's shaped in a circle and in the middle of it has a bunch of gold stars. In the middle of the stars is shaped like an eagle flapping its wings and it says “Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.” www.fbi.gov does have a repeating background image and it's pretty basic. It's just a dark blue strip that has the logo in the middle of it and on the strip it says “The FBI”. On the far right it has a search bar and that's the basic repeating image this website gives. Other images on this site include a helicopter with a man pointing a laser at it, a picture of a cyber computer threat and picture of a man's back that's wearing an FBI jacket. The color package this website offers is just two colors, white and blue. It's not supposed to be a website that affects a teenagers mood or a social website, it's made to inform people about reality and the FBI takes it very seriously as being the top security agency in the United States. The authors on this website, which are FBI supervisors and managers, sound very serious and strict. They're talking to the public that doesn't know much about the government and people interested in joining the Bureau because of the serious tone that is being used. The language used is pretty simple for an average adult to understand, it doesn't require being a nuclear physician to understand what the authors are talking about because the site is aimed towards the people of the United States. Besides the authors using and updating this site regularly, the people that use it regularly would only be someone that wants a job with the Bureau, such as myself, or a family member to a current agent working for the FBI, since everything is top secret and confidential that nothing can be released to the public. People can not interact with this website because it is not a social networking site, it's a serious website that informs the people of the United States. The last interactivity on this website would be the digital work that is has to offer which are links. These links bring you to other government websites such as filing a complaint on a crime that the public can do online or contacting your local FBI field office, where there are only approximately fifty throughout the United States. These links fit the message because they are only there to help the citizens of the U.S and the FBI on solving an investigation or even helping them collect evidence that was never found by the FBI themselves. In conclusion, I like the www.fbi.gov because I tend to be a serious person just like the website itself, and my dream job has always been joining the agency and becoming a special agent in the Bureau. I don't like fancy, complicated things and that's why I like the background image and logo for the FBI. I argue that it is very simple and even cool looking, especially the logo because of what it says in the middle of it. The FBI website is for serious individuals that wants a government career, that can handle being under pressure. It's a commitment to become a special agent with any sort of secret service branch or a justice department because of all the top secret classified information you have to vow now to tell anyone, including your own family or friends. That's just how I like it which is why I wouldn't mine moving from place to place to solve an investigation with the FBI. |
On the other hand, my second favorite website is www.gamebattles.com The purpose of this website is strictly for elite gamers, whether they want to play a game for fun or competitively, and it takes a lot to control your own gamebattles account. What I mean by that is basically this website is more for people that like to win games and only want to win. They tend to curse a lot of words at other gamers that might be minding their own business because they don't like to lose. For example, the Xbox 360 is a very popular video game system that's probably out today. Many people have it and play the game, Call of Duty, very competitively because the game is taken very serious on gamebattles because you can win a lot of money from winning tournaments. This website does actually try to sell things to members, and they try to sell two different things. The first thing that they try to sell is called credits. A credit is simply a gaming credit and they are used to play in a tournament so if you win, you can win thousands of dollars from winning a specific tournament in Call of Duty or other popular competitive video games. The second thing gamebattles tries to sell to members is called "premium". Premium means that your own general account will show up gold. This means that when you want to play a competitive match, and lets say a dispute occurs at the end of the match, premium allows your profile to be looked at first. This means that the opposing team will have less authority compared to the premium team because the administrators favor premium accounts because you paid extra money for it and it always comes in handy. A good example of a premium member and a regular member would be Congress and the States' governments. If there is ever a dispute, which there are plenty, it will usually take place in court. The judge usually favors the federal government (Congress), over the States because the federal government has more power as a nation, compared to one individual state fighting over a law change. That's an example of why "Premium" on gamebattles is a good thing to have because the admins favor you no matter what. This site does have a community which consists of complaints of why rules are not working out, the members create forums and complain about the admins. Gamebattles does inform me about a specific place because it tells members when an event occurs and where; a lot of money is the outcome if you win the games. Besides the words on the website, many videos of competitive games such as myself are being live streamed for the public to see how good some of these players really are, that's another way in which gamebattles communicates its specific purpose
There is a logo for this website and it's pretty basic in my opinion. The logo is the picture as shown above, and it's a circle surrounding a camera lens. In the middle of the circle and the camera lens, it says "gb." Gb stands for gamebattles and the purpose of the camera lens is to show that a lot of videos occur throughout the website so that's how the logo works with the purpose of the site. There is a repeating image on the site and it just says "gamebattles" and it's surrounded by a blue rectangular shape, that's pretty much it. Other images that appear on the site if you look deeper into it would be pictures of professional gamers. Yes, there are actually professional gamers just like professional football players. Instead of the NFL, gamebattles has its own major league in which they call it MLG. MLG stands for major league gaming and its the best of the best gamers that won national tournaments throughout the United States in a specific video game such as Call of Duty or Gears of War. They work with the purpose of the site because the admins of the site want to show the public that you can win a $1 million dollar check just like others have, just from winning in a video game. The color package of this website is blue, white, and green. They change the colors depending on what season to make the mood fit perfectly for the gamers which is very interesting. The authors on this website are talking to the public and to all gamers that are already competitive or those who want to be competitive. The language of the sites author is very easy to understand because many little children are playing violent video games like Call of Duty now so they always succeed at getting the message across to everyone, including children. The people who use this site the most are definitely the MLG gamers because they want to see what other events are coming up so they can win even more money, that's what it's all about to most people, winning and money. On gamebattles, people interact very differently. They can post on someone's personal page, it's like posting on someones wall on Facebook, except everyone uses gaming language. That means it's all abbreviations which only gamers can understand the logic of, it's like speaking a different language. The only links that can take you to another website would be a gamers personal YouTube page because he or she wants to show the public a video of how good they are at a specific video game. I like this website mainly because I've been using it for about seven years now and I am a competitive gamer myself. Mainly because I'm one of those gamers who is always relaxed and I play for fun all of the time, while playing competitively at the same time. The design of the websites' changing images and themes constantly due to the season or holiday is always what catches my attention the most. |
In comparison between the Federal Bureau of Investigation's official website and gamebattles' website is definitely the violence and commitment involved. I say violence first because the FBI is used to protect the United States from terrorist attacks and threats from anyone really, in that case many FBI agents have to risk their lives when it comes to some of their assignments and tasks to complete it before anyone gets hurt. There are shootings and murders involved with the FBI, that's the whole point of investigations so this is why violence is involved with them. On the other hand, violence is also involved with gamebattles. It's involved in a different way, virtually over a computer and television screen compared to a real life danger experience. Because all ages of people that play violent video games such as Call of Duty in a competitive way, cursing and screaming will occur. Many competitive players will become more violent in terms of real life because they might be stuck in this virtual world where they lost a competitive match and they get violent, especially young teenagers and teenagers. There are even forty year old's I know that are very violent because of the competition and its popularity. Last,y, the other thing in common the FBI and the gamebattles' website has in common is commitment. The FBI is more of a straight forward answer because it's a career job to take it seriously because the FBI is the top protection that the United States has today from any attacks or threats. Gamebattles. is also a commitment because people will have to play and practice matches with their teams all day long in order to succeed when it comes to winning money in a competitive match. Finally, the major difference that I liked between www.fbi.gov and www.gamebattles.com is the two completely different worlds. The FBI is a real life, serious and dangerous world, it's reality. The gamebattles members are playing competitively, as they're stuck inside this virtual world not having to worry about reality every time the game turns on. Overall, these are my two favorite websites as I love my video game playing hobby along with my future career in federal investigations.
In conclusion, both the official FBI website and the competitive gaming website relates to web design in a couple of ways. Web design is your own creative ideas and discussions talked about in your own way. In my case, my two favorite websites are not based on the same topic because one deals with being stuck inside a virtual world; whereas the other website is a real life, dangerous situation in which the FBI protects all threats from the United States. Since they are two different topics, they still relate to one another in web design because they both have to do with violence. Since these two websites relate in a violent way, but differ in every other aspect, I will keep in mind that I can always transform different topics together just like I did in my own custom header. Digital rhetoric will always be similar and different to each other and will continue to relate in web design as my own creative ideas connect in the most unintentional ways. I will always be interested in video games since I grew up playing competitively and I will always have my dream career which is to become an FBI special agent. Both of these completely different categories having to do with violence is what shapes my personal interests and hobbies, it makes it all come together.
